Even though cloud hosting is considered as an emerging technology, it has now become a well-documented and highly used technology throughout the world of IT. It functions by providing applications, data, disc space, memory and many more things by streaming over the internet. As the technology is very new, it is still rendering many IT firms confused about it. People are not sure when to migrate and how to migrate and what type of cloud services to focus on.
Mainly there are three different kinds of cloud hosting and they are private cloud which is for internal services, external public cloud services and hybrid, which is a mixture of both.
Private cloud
The private cloud is also known as the internal cloud because it enables sharing of applications and IT resources through the intranet which is used by the internal staff of the company. This ultimately becomes a private group and it means different users are able to use varied data and applications, all of which is mainly set behind a secure firewall. So, this type of setup is mainly for within the four walls of an organization and no resources would be shared with any other agencies indicating absence of multi tenancy. The private cloud is made to the needs of the company as it uses private connections and run continuously with 100% uptime. The dedicated disc space helps to enhance the security.
Public cloud
The public cloud is also known as an external cloud because it provides IT services via the internet. The public clouds make things a lot easier and there is a decline in time taken to test and implement new projects as many resources can be shared with different companies which also have similar projects. Companies prefer public clouds because it is very affordable plus it comes with a number of advantages which include sharing of IT resources.
Hybrid Cloud
The hybrid cloud is a combination of the public cloud and private cloud and includes best of both the services. This technology provides more customization as the rules and policies implemented are meant for the security and infrastructure needs. Choosing the hybrid cloud means all the activities are divided depending upon the internal and external needs of its users.
Cloud hosting is known as internal i.e. private, external i.e. public and hybrid. Apart from this, it can also be categorized on the basis of service type and the platform on which it is based. This is Software-as-a-service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS).
SaaS gives access to a remote product or an e-commerce service over the internet. Platform-as-a-Service is focused on developers who don’t require any input to the underlying infrastructure and only need to share the applications via the cloud. Infrastructure-as-a-Service provides high involvement with respect to infrastructure for the users. There are other kinds of cloud based hosting known as community clouds, federated clouds, mobile clouds and cloud streams. All of these are applied through visualization. They centralize applications and infrastructure stored on different servers and manage them remotely.
Any of the above mentioned ways are usable but how good it works for you depend upon the selection of the right host and the requirement of your business.
